Exceptional customer service is all about perception. It's
whatever your customer thinks it is. All you have to do, to be
exceptional, is be better than the last salesperson the customer had.
Here are 5 strategies that will help you improve your negotiation skills:
1) Consider your customer as the most important person of the moment
Show sincere interest in your customer and be 100% available for him or her
2) Develop the habit of asking questions
The person with the most information usually does better. Learn as much as possible about your competitors, the wants and interests of your customer, the decision-making process, and the roles of the different players in the process
3) Practice at every opportunity
Develop self confidence by negotiating more frequently. Seize every opportunity. Be pleasant, quiet, firm, persistent but not demanding or aggressive
4) Learn to flinch
This is an old technique. Appear shocked and surprised, in a gentle way, that they could be bold enough to request a discount. Resist the temptation to automatically reduce your price. People often ask for more than they expect to get!
5) Maintain your walk away power
It is better to walk away from a sale rather than make too large a concession.
