How to cope with problem staff?
● Do communicate. Have a conversation to find how they feel about work. Make sure they develop a positive inner attitude – they might be having problems. See if they need help
● Don’t be afraid to give straight feedback
● Do reinforce the behaviour you are looking for
● Don’t just complain or criticise – give them time in a positive way
● Do celebrate success – make it worth doing a good job
● Don’t continuously throw cash at problems – take time to observe individual characters and identify what makes people fail
● Do maintain a positive relationship with the person – it will prove invaluable
● Don’t forget that your management o people is effectively you selling the brand of your business to your staff. Give it priority
● Do find what they need from you in order to do a better job
● Don’t treat problem staff as a problem, but as a bundle of latent potential and energy waiting to be unleashed
